A Family's Week

We arrived a family of eight, unsure whether one house could hold three generations for a week. It did. Not just held us — settled us. The children learnt the back gate before they learnt the front door.

Guest Stories

Six small notes, from six different weeks.

Couples on a quiet weekend, families across three generations, and returning guests who have quietly made Villa Villa Coola part of their year.

Couple

The house is what the photos suggest, and more than they can say. There is a softness to the interiors that a camera can't quite catch — sun on the timber, salt on the linen. Anna Spiro's hand is everywhere and nowhere at once.

Returning

Our fourth visit. The house has quietly become part of the family calendar. The children ask about the bunk room before the flights are booked.

Occasion

We came for a milestone birthday. What I remember is not the day itself — it is the long lunch that spilled into afternoon, and how easily ten people fit around one table.

First stay

Peregian was a gentle surprise. The village a two-minute walk, the beach at the back gate, and a rooftop that turns everyone into a poet at sunset.

Family

Three generations under one roof and not a single raised voice. That is either the house, or the pool. Possibly both.

Enquiry to arrival

The owners answered every email personally. It felt less like a booking and more like being handed the keys by a friend.

Returning Guests

The best measure of the house is how often it is returned to.

More than a third of our stays each year are guests coming back — some for a fourth or fifth time, some who have quietly written Peregian into their calendar.

Returning guests are always looked after: preferred bedrooms held, favourite provisions remembered, and a small welcome that says good to see you again.
