Peregian Beach is a quiet piece of coastline forty kilometres north of Noosa Airport. It has one village green, one patrolled beach, three good coffee shops and no through-traffic. For a family, that's most of the argument.
The rhythm of a Peregian week
Most families settle into a shape by the second morning: swim before breakfast, coffee at Hand of Fatima or Outer Square, back to the house for the middle of the day (pool, spa, books, naps), then a return to the beach in the late afternoon when the light softens and the crowds thin. Dinner is either at the house or on the village green. Bed early. Repeat.
The beach
Patrolled daily in summer school holidays and on weekends year-round by Peregian Beach SLSC. Always swim between the flags. The sand is wide and clean, the surf is honest, and there is a rinse shower on the way back up the path. See the full beach guide for detail on tides and quieter stretches.
Playgrounds and green space
- The village green — fenced from the road, right beside the cafés.
- Kingfisher Park — bigger equipment, shady picnic tables.
- Coolum Beach foreshore playground — 12-minute drive if you want a change of scenery.
- Noosa Woods & Main Beach — 15-minute drive, and the river is calmer than the ocean for small swimmers.
Eating with children
Every restaurant on the village green welcomes children. The Peregian Beach Hotel has a proper kids' menu and enough room to walk about, the SLSC lets small feet come and go from the sand between courses, and Providore does a five-minute pizza that has saved several evenings. What to do when it rains
The Sunshine Coast gets its share of wet weather. Rather than lose the day, we tend to move inland: bookshops at Peregian and Eumundi, the Ginger Factory at Yandina, Australia Zoo further south, or a long slow lunch at the Pomona Distilling Co. Full list in rainy day activities.
The house, for a family
Villa Villa Coola sleeps up to ten across four bedrooms and seven beds. Two king rooms for adults, a queen, and a dedicated bunk room the children will fight over on arrival and refuse to leave by day three. Travel cot, high chair, children's dinnerware and a games room with board games are all provided. Pets are welcome by arrangement.
The bunk room negotiations usually take about ten minutes. The friendships take a lifetime.
