Noosa is a fifteen-minute drive from Villa Villa Coola. It is quite unlike Peregian — busier, more polished, a proper resort town — and worth a full day at least once in the week. The trick is to leave early and come home before dinner.
The day, roughly
- 8 am — leave Peregian. Park at Noosa Woods.
- 8:30 — breakfast on Hastings Street. Sails, Bistro C or Rickys are the reliable trio.
- 9:30 — walk into Noosa National Park. The Coastal Track from the main car park to Hells Gates is roughly 2.5 km each way.
- 11:00 — swim at Tea Tree Bay or Granite Bay. Both are inside the park, both are quieter than Main Beach.
- 1 pm — lunch back on Hastings Street or a river-side lunch at Noosa Boathouse.
- 3 pm — swim at Main Beach before the wind gets up.
- 4:30 pm — home to the house. Rooftop by 5.
Noosa National Park
One of the great short coastal walks in Australia — pandanus, headlands, koalas if you look up. The full loop is 5 km return, but you can turn around at Tea Tree Bay for a gentler outing with children. Free entry, allow half a day for the whole walk.
Noosa Main Beach
A protected north-facing bay — one of the few east-coast Australian beaches that faces this way. That means calm swimming most days, gentle for small children, and light that stays on the water later in the afternoon.
Hastings Street
The main strip. Boutiques, cafés, restaurants — polished, pricey, occasionally very good. Sails for a slow lunch, Bistro C for the balcony, Little Humid for a casual dinner. Season by the RACV Noosa Resort is a genuine special-occasion room.
The river
For a slower day, skip the ocean and spend the morning on the Noosa River. Rent a stand-up paddle board at Noosa Boathouse, kayak into the Noosa Everglades, or take a coffee to the beach at Noosaville and read for a couple of hours. Excellent with young children.
Slightly further afield
- Sunshine Beach — quieter than Main Beach, cinemas and cafés along Duke Street.
- Noosa Farmers Market — Sunday mornings. See the markets guide.
- Cooroy and the hinterland — a longer loop for a slow day.
Noosa is a wonderful place to visit — and a wonderful place to leave when it's time to come home.
