Peregian Beach faces east. That means the sun comes up out of the ocean, which is one of the small daily miracles of living on this stretch of coast — and one of the reasons a house here is worth an early alarm.
Sunrise
Set the alarm fifteen minutes before the forecast. Walk out the back gate, past the outdoor shower, straight onto the sand. If it's a clean morning, the horizon will show a thin band of gold twenty minutes before the sun clears. If it's cloudy, you may get the more spectacular version.

Sunset
The east coast doesn't get an ocean sunset — the sun goes down behind you. What you get instead is a slow pink light on the water, and a proper sunset if you turn around and face the hinterland.
Best watched from: the rooftop deck (360-degree views over the village and the ridge line); Point Perry at Coolum, a fifteen-minute drive south; Laguna Bay Lookout in Noosa National Park, a twenty-minute drive north.
A small daily ritual
The rooftop deck at Villa Villa Coola is a habit-forming spot. First coffee arrives before the birds are quite ready. Last conversation runs longer than it should. Somewhere in between, dinner happens.
